St.Roch's Ballymoney Co. Wexford Ireland House Rental

My heart broke to discover the so called "private beach" after we settled in.

The photos and description were very misleading as I had anticipated spending time with my family on the advertised "private beach" The walk was dangerous and treacherous. I fell down scraping my leg & my friend was also injured. We couldn't take the children down the path that turned out to be an 8 min walk through a gorge you had to straddle with very dangerous metal spikes sticking out of a walkway.

The vision I had anticipated prior to booking was our family enjoying the Irish Sea every morning and afternoons in the sand and campfires in the evening on our "private beach."

I was never so disappointed for the very high price (1700.00 euro = $2400.00 for one week ) we paid which I did not mind paying to know we would have the "beach" we were promised. This house was not as described which I would call "false advertising."

I feel very taken advantage of coming from America. We brought family together from Ireland, England and the USA. This was to be our "dream vacation" for our family and it ended up being a heartbreaking disappointment along with an embarrassment in many ways.

The walls, ceiling and floor of every room were "wooden" and there were no smoke alarms throughout the house.

We had a colony of ants marching through the house and two of the beds had earwigs living under the covers.

The mold and dampness hand an effect on 1 of our family members asthma.  The house did provide 2 dehumidifiers which we were able to run during our stay.

We were expected to "pay" for the garbage truck to pick up and remove the trash we had to haul down the lane by car was very annoying!

This house is advertised at: http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/accommodation/p8054850

  1. Checked the description and the south beach is described as 'more private' not private- beaches below the high tide line in Ireland belong to everyone so cannot be private. Also house has 8 bedrooms it says so rent is not not so high. Private houses in Ireland are not required by law to have any smoke alarms if they are old/existing say more than 10 years old. Its pretty nasty to trash a nice house like this.

    1. You must be the owner of this property to make such a rash statement!

  2. I'm not the owner but I have stayed in St Roch's twice and will do so again in 2015. There is not rash contained in the previous comment, even though you may not like it, it is correct. There are several other inaccuracies in the original post that I will briefly refer to. Both Ballymoney beaches are to the left on the lane-way not the right. A garbage coupon and recycling coupon are provided.

    1. Bottom line it was not explained properly and made it very uncomfortable.

  3. A very informatic blog. This was a safe and comfortable place to live, with good bus service to the city centre. Most people back then had at most one car per family, so buses and bicycles were the main mode of transportation...........
